Ski mountaineering, or SkiMo, is a sport that combines uphill climbing and downhill skiing across challenging, snow-covered mountain terrain. Competitors use specialised skis, climbing skins, bindings, and boots for both ascents and descents. Race directors reserve the right to randomly check the gear at the start of the race. For more detailed and up-to-the-minute rules for the sport of Ski Mountaineering, please visit the website for the International Ski Mountaineering Federation and follow the links through Official Texts – Sport Regulations – Sporting Rules. Skimo will test a participant’s fitness and endurance levels, the participant’s uphill travel and transition proficiency and the participant’s alpine skiing skills (and nerve) to get down the mountain and to the finish line. Also, please refer to the guidelines dictated by your local race director and/or ask them directly regarding any questions. . See the rules and required equipment for racers participating in the Shedhorn Skimo events at Big Sky Resort. All participants on the full Mt Ashland Skimo course are required to have avalanche gear (beacon, shovel, probe) with them at all times during the race with beacon in “send” mode. zuzyob hoqyby ovmt yvmyix cdn zhyvovd jsc yrpu sgklx xnq
